Christmas Cookies

Posted on

As I was making Christmas cookies the other day, I remembered the hundreds of cookies that my grandparents used to make every year. With my grandpa’s help my grandma would mix up sugar cookie shapes, labchuckens, springerles, molasses crinkles, peanut butter cookies with a Hershey’s kiss, snowballs and more. She also made candy. There was peanut brittle, pink and white divinity, coconut bonbons and toffee.

The grandkids were always invited to help decorate the sugar cookies. I remember that one year I was feeling especially artistic and I spent a good hour on one cookie. It was the shape of an ornament, and by the time I was done, it had multiple stripes of color and various sprinkles. It was beautiful, but Grandma couldn’t believe that I only finished 7 cookies by the end of the night! She never let me forget it either! 🙂

What Christmas traditions do you have in your family? How do you make the time to keep those traditions alive in today’s busy world?
