Temptations at the Grocery Store

Posted on

The other day I was shopping at Whole Foods for my client and I passed by a shelf of honey. As I stared at a jar of golden honey with the comb, my mouth started watering. I had to remind myself that I already have at least 5 varieties of honey at home! So here (in no particular order) are more of my biggest temptations at the grocery store.

Cheese I am a sucker for cheese. It is really tough to pass by a fancy cheese counter without picking up a wedge of creamy brie, blue, manchego, fresh mozzarella…I could go on and on. My current favorite is Delice de Bourgogne, available at Whole Foods, Pastoral, and many other good cheese shops.

Red Wine Oops! How did that second bottle get into my cart? Oh well, we will drink it. 🙂 I can’t wait to try this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau to be released on November 18th. It is usually a light and fun wine, meant to be drunk casually or with Thanksgiving dinner.

Fish Dinner plans have been known to change when I spot halibut or sea bass or tuna on sale at the fish counter. After all, fish is best when chosen in season and eaten without delay.

Apple Cider I love all the fall foods and one of my favorites is apple cider. It reminds me of making homemade apple cider with my grandparents in the antique cider press. My dad inherited the cider press and occasionally I am lucky enough to have homemade cider, but usually store-bought has to suffice.

What are your biggest temptations at the grocery store, farmer’s market or specialty shop?

OLIVES! I can’t pass by the Schnuck’s olive bar without filling a container. My favorites are the Manzanilla, which are the common table olives, but these have the seed left in and retain a rich, almost buttery flavor with just the right amount of saltiness. The Cerignola are also a favorite, whether green or black. They some times are called Olivio Viejo, meaning they come from old trees, I guess. The container rarely makes it home as full as it was I left the store. 🙂

Unquestionably consider that that you satted. Your favourite justification seemed to be on the internet the simplest thing to take into account of. I say to you, I certainly get irked at the same time as other people think about issues that they plainly don’t understand about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top and also outlined out the entire thing without having side effect , other people could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you!
